Department Conversations and Official Welcome

Image
Hi Mom. Aside from the cringeworthy name games, trust exercises and painfully long games of ninja, orientation was been on the up. This morning was the "Department Conversations" in which the each major wound up in some kind of room (since Illustration has a lot of people we got to be spaced out in one of the auditoriums) and proceeded to talk about what we could expect for the next four years out of our major. Originally, I thought this would terrify me even more. But I wound up feeling really excited to start my classes and discover the kind of art I am capable of creating. Just by glancing at the student artwork that passed on the giant screen above the faculties' heads, I knew I'd chosen correctly - hopefully that feeling stays and grows positively as I continue on.  One thing that made me laugh was when someone asked, "Are freshmen allowed to submit portfolios to companies that come on campus to recruit." Caleb, one of the faculty, laughed and said ...

"Your Route is Clear. You will reach your destination."

Hi Mom. So...blogging. I'm really gonna try here. For you Mom. Yesterday, I moved into my dorm room at Ringling College of Art and Design - after six days of driving. I have been dreaming about this for a long time now. And its actually happening. Here's where I'll spend the next year. I love my corner. Most things from home make the home-sickness more bearable. Downside: the bed is so high if I were to suddenly wake up from a dream I would walk away with a nice bruise on my head. Sidenote: VERY VERY glad I brought my mattress pillow. Here is another perk for being a Ringling student - "free" macbook pro. I say "free" because honestly tuition covered it a billion times over. Also, please note my tiny fan. I am in love with it.  Here is just one of the many murals in Sarasota, right outside my new go-to Chinese Restaurant.  This next part in my journey seems way bigger than life - finally going after something I've wanted to...
